Hyaluronic acid, sometimes referred to as 'hyaluronan' or 'HA', is an important natural component of connective tissue. It can bind large quantities of water. The hyaluronic acid produced for injection is usually prepared in such a way that it is not flushed out immediately, but slowly broken down by the skin.
